The new building was designed as one option in a feasibility study undertaken to determine the best use of the existing site and building.


As the site was somewhat restricted at the rear, the new building was planned around a courtyard open to the street. This gave the majority of the new units orientation to the better views.


Although more contemporary in its use of materials, the building with its terra-cotta panels is designed to be sympathetic to the typical adjacent brick facades.
