Original plan of the partially excavated Villa of Oplontis near Pompeii showing both the rooms of the villa itself and the gardens surrounding it. The plan shows the remains of the planting as evidenced by the cast roots of the trees and bushes found in situ. The research and excavations of the plantings were done by Wilhelmina F. Jashemski in 1974 and are the only ancient gardens that provides archaeological evidence of the original planting.
